about

I wrote, recorded and mixed all of these songs between 2004 and 2006 while living in my Father's house. I can remember sitting in the living room writing them. I would stay up way to late and wait until my father would leave for work to record them or if I couldn't wait, I'd haul my gear to my room or the basement and record quietly. I was just learning to record, play drum's and play lead guitar. I used whatever equipment I could find, I didn't have much and what I did have wasn't high quality gear but I'm very grateful I had something to use. Interestingly enough, most of these songs were written using either an improv or a stream of conscious approach. I had an uncanny ability to, when I had a lyric or melody come into my head, go straight to my recording machine, press record and a full song would come out in minutes. The song Green Paper, for example, was a poem I had written years before and one day after going through a tough heartbreak I came home, grabbed the lyrics, pressed record on my machine and out popped the song. I made up the melody and chord progression on the spot. The title track , Dark That Day..., I wrote after a phone call I received from an ex girlfriend at 4 a.m. who was depressed and wanted to kill herself. After I talked with her and she was doing better, I got off the phone and, once again, pressed record and made up all the words and chords on the spot. Goodbye Sweet Rose, Hello Sweet Death was one of the first fictional songs I wrote after watching a depressing film and reading a very awful news article about a little girl who was murdered. The majority of the other songs were written in the same way with stream of conscious lyrics coming out on the spot. I finished this collection of songs around the end of 2006 and had planned on releasing the album in 2007. Due to my struggle with crippling self-doubt and fear, I felt like the recordings were to lo-fi, too many mistakes were in the songs or the playing wasn't very good, so I sat on the album for 10 years. About a month ago (end of November 2017) I decided that enough was enough and I wanted to share these songs with the world, so I started making plans to finally release my debut album "Dark That Day, So Heartless". The songs you are about to hear are imbued with pain, sadness, loneliness, self-doubt, self-hatred, but most of all, they emit a strong message of hope and a wish for a brighter future. They saved my life at a time when I felt like I had nothing. I proudly present to you "Dark That Day, So Heartless".

Thank you to my Father for putting up with loud late night recording sessions.
Thank you to my Mother for helping me out with the original recording machine that I used to make these songs.
Thank you to you for listening. May you find hope in these songs much in the same way I did.
